Man, was I a donk or what? Just had Pokerstars send me my hand history from before I got Holdem Manager… and here I thought I was a little over break-even after this last couple months of running good. Boy was I wrong. Today, I’m sitting at -$152 profit for a career online factoring in both cash games and tourneys. I’m hoping I can achieve “even” by years end. And if my swing continues, I could be back to even as early as the end of this month. Here’s to progress!

BTW if you're folding Queens on that flop, are you folding Aces and Kings as well?

In this specific situation they’re all virtually the same hand… I expect to be drawing to 2 outs if anyone overcalls my shove. In a Cash game, where I could just re-buy I’d probably re-shove with all the overpairs. But here, I can fold and still go on to win. In fact, I did take 2nd in this very SNG.

Yesterday, Quentin came over for the second half of the game and we played a couple SNGs while the Hawks creamed the Cards. I loaded up two $20 turbos and could have sworn I was going to donk both of them after having to fold QQ to a short-stack shove from the button and a Big Blind over-shove… and also min-raising with AT 5-handed and having to call a Small Blind shove because of the likelihood he was making a play (he wasn’t). Luckily, though I hit an open-ender in one of them then caught QQ late against that same Reg that beat my AT earlier in the other one. Ended up finishing 2nd (lost heads up with a set of Queens to AK when he hit his gut-shot on the turn) and 3rd which almost put me back to even for the weekend.

Later on around midnight, I had been watching my girlfriend play Fable 3 when I figured I could jump into a couple cash games until bed time… Only took me about 25 minutes and I was up $50 at 25NL. Short-term variance can be good to you sometimes.

Rakeback comes and goes...

Got my first Rakeback payment today for $44… and then proceeded to jump into 4 SNGs for about $49 and lose 3/4 so far. Sweet! Now let’s just hope I win this last one so I can only show a $5 net loss from my Saturday Morning donking adventure.

UPDATE: I ended up taking 3rd in the last one for a net-loss of $35.

Didn’t realize I could filter the dates for my Holdem Manager graph (thanks for the screenshot 8KGrind). Anyway, thought it would be cool to show how my results have changed late this year. Not super-amazing or anything, but I’m encouraged nonetheless. Thinking I’m going to stick to SNGs for a while. I tried several MTTs again this weekend, but just couldn’t stay focused. I really hate the “limping with aces” bullshit that’s so common in them, too. I’ll probably throw in a cash game here and there as well since the last couple I’ve played on Absolute should have been super profitable… now if only I could stop running bad and tilting off my stacks.

Planning to spend the day watching Poker Pwnage vids and playing low buy-in Full Tilt MTTs. Haven’t played much over the last few days… Wednesday was our live game, Thursday I was trying to figure out that Xpadder gamepad thing for Cereus, and yesterday I spent showing one of my friends how crazy online poker is before spending the rest of the night playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 (cause it’s fuckin’ awesome). I need to get back on the grind and there’s no better day than Saturday when the play is soft and there’s no Seahawks game. ;)

I tried to get the Cereus script going last night, but it’s got some cereus-issues… haha. Xpadder seems to work great, but the advanced AHK script loses focus easily and starts selecting items on my desktop. It even closed my Xpadder once. There’s a less involved script that uses Absolute’s built-in F1-F12 quick-action keys, but I can’t figure out how to get it to cycle between open tables. I’lll probably need to find a way to use the built-in hot keys along with some features of the advanced script.

My Full Tilt account doesn’t get Rakeback and Pokerstars pulled out of our state because of the dumb-ass online gambling law… sucks.

Hmmmm, might have to pony up for an Android tablet.

Me and my buddies, a collection of guys i've met on PS and FT use vent as our own personal forum and we just talk strategy there, that's where the majority of my learning comes from. One of my good buddies is extremely good, and he has taught me so much. I also always read the strategies on Pokernews.com, and I watch Waterboat videos (for entertainment, and because he explains if you do the opposite of what he does, you can be good). But nothing really formal. I really consider the only way to learn and get better, is by experience.

I agree experience is key, but I also see the value in understanding the theory and math of the game and you can’t really learn that by playing a lot of hands. I suppose having a friend who is really good is probably better than being a member of a training site as I have improved some of my friend’s games immensely by simply passing on knowledge I have accumulated over the last few years. I really wish I knew someone that killed it day in and day out that I could sweat all the time. That would PWN.
